BMW SERIES 5 E39 Rear Suspension Bushes and links

I thought it would be right to start a new thread here. Have been searching the forum the last few days to get a list of all the bushes that canought be replaced at the rear for a complete over haul of the rear suspension. There are several posts for How to replace the suspension meaning shox sway bars ball joint springs etc but very few that lists how to replace the rest of the parts such as guding

Heres a thread thats been focused on the missing bushings issue. httpwww.bimmerfest.comforumssho...d.phpt399935 You might take a look at the recent posts there. The two bushings on the inner pivots of the swing arm (trailing arm) are not sold separately by bmw for the e39 hence you wont find part numbers for them. ECS Tuning sells these bushings for the E53 swing arms. Ive been wondering if theyre

BMW X5 E70 12 x5 35d with 20 staggered rims bad tire wear

I just recently had my 08-E70 w20 wheels aligned on Friday from a independent garage. I noticed that my left rear tire had some bad camber when compared to the right rear. My mechanic also informed me that the front suspension does not allow for camber adjustments I would have to purchase specific bmw control arm in order to adjust the front camber. Attached are the before and after alignment spec. The left rear was way out for me

BMW X5 E70 X5 Trailer Recommendation

I have searched several threads regarding trailers and all I found were How much weight is safe to tow bmws electric tow hitch etc. I have NEVER put a trailer onto any car ive driven and need one to take my bike to and from the track (Youtube videos of bikes being rear-ended in traffic give me second thoughts of riding on highways). Is there any bike trailer in particular which copes best best or people

Delivering a Bobcat. I have the third row seat option so the rear air suspension had no problem with compensating for the high tongue weight. With the 50is torque the trailer weight was easily handled. I do not tow a lot with the X5 but was suprised that it towed so much better than even the Nissan armada I had which had a tow rating of 9000 lbs.

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Steering wheel shaking while braking (thrust arm bushings)

So my 01 540iA with 84k miles started exhibiting the classic thrust arm bushing failure at about 80k miles. Reading through the FAQ I identified the culprit ordered new Lemfoerder OEM bushings and proceeded with the repair - (this was back in April). I was able to press out the old bushings under the car using a jaw puller but was not able to get the new ones in. Lacking the ball joint removal tool

Id say start by checking the alignment arrows on the bushing. Its on the rubber portion within the metal cylinder. You might find they have been installed incorrectly and that solves the entire problem. I have heard the X5

BMW X5 E53 Brake Service Cost on X5 3.0i

Has anybody had a brake service done on their X5 3.0i recently I got quotes from 2 dealers replacing the front and rear pads and rotors for 1200. Just the parts alone cost 700 . Does it sound right or I got ripped

Well we got together again this Saturday and finished up the rear brakes. As before we replaced rotors with OEM-style Zimmerman swapped in Axxis Ultimate pads and installed StopTech stainless steel braided Teflon lines. As before the calipers were taken off and all build-up of crud was removed with a brass wire brush. Then they were blown off with compressed air and cleaned with brake cleaning spray

BMW X5 E70 Alignment issue

Two weeks ago Ive given my X5-2010 to the dealer for service (mainly oil change transmission reprogramming & general checkup) but after collecting the vehicle the steering wheel was not straight anymore off by 15 degrees or so to the right. Car does not pull left or right but when driven straight the steering wheel is tilted to the right. The dealer said that they did nothing that can affect the alignment

BMW X5 E70 Ordered my X5 35d today. What did I forget

Ordered a 2010 X5 35d today. Got a the 2010 model because (I think) I got a good deal on the price--about 7500 off MSRP. Ordered with Premium Cold Weather rear Climate Technology Roof Rails Satellite Radio and iPod. BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 Alignment - Warranty - improper tire wear

First off an easy question... Is front-end alignment covered under the bmw warranty My car (2011 335i 4-door) was purchased new and I paid to extend the no service charge warranty to 10-year100k-miles right now my car is just over 20k on the miles so it is not even an issue with the extension I bought. I had the car in for service 3rd time for faulty air-pressure sensors and the service department

Alignment is not covered and bmws are very sensitive to alignment especially with the soft front suspension bushings. And yes a pothole will effect toe on a bmw. Outside tire wear on modern bmws is very common. bmw and Audi suspension geometry is designed for handling more than it is for tire wear. My 335s go through rears tires every 9k-10k miles and the fronts are good for about 20k miles. Most summer

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Old School Vs New School

Hello Everybody have been a passive member of the forum until recently when i decided to join . None the less i have an issue. Unfortunate for me the car had some hidden costs i did not see when

a no-brainer... I recommend using Mann Mahle or Hengst air filters. Always done at 5k-7.5k miles depending how you drive... I recommend using Mobil 1 - 0w-40 that can be found at Walmart in 5 quart jugs for 25. Again this is an easy DIY - replacing the oil... Good luck... BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 BMW Build Quality

Ive heard a lot of negative comments from the friends and colleagues about bmw build quality - espacially units solod in USA - electrical equipment problems - unstable electronics (lot of glitches) - small interior elements falling out.. - mechanical problems After searching this forum - I can not find a lot of postings about bad bmw quality. So either the bmw owners try to be hypish about their cars

In general bmws arent as bullet-proof as a ToyotaLExus or Honda. But of the Europeans theyre probably the best right now. Im not sure build quality is the right term for what youre looking for. When I think of build quality Im thinking of panel gaps paint quality trim rattles -- stuffl like that. In those areas bmws generally arent so great. seat vibration on highways. After that I still had a tiny vibration zone felt in my seats even on smoothest asphalt roads 70-75 mph zone and dealer could not figure it out. There were complaints all over the world in regards to this and I found the answer on other forums regarding the suspension dampers (bushings) being replaced but I sold the car before that as I waited for more than 1 year for bmw

BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 What does it take to knock off the alignment in our cars

Im just curious to know at what speed can the frontrear alignment get knocked off if you hit something on the road For example at what speed would hitting a road bump or a pot hole cause the alignment to go haywire Can rough road disrupt the alignment as well Are there any other interestinguntypical scenarios that you can think of or share if youve experienced a misalignment due to them Thanks

They have to be. Your brakes stop you but your steering prevents you from pointing into oncoming traffic. Some components are extremely strong in one direction but very weak in another. For instance a rod type lower control arm is very strong in tension almost as strong in compression but very vulnerable to side force. Think of a short length of coathanger (though of course the control arm is much larger). You cant pull it apart. You cant easily compress it unless you bend it. But it is very easy to bend from the side. Additionally there are huge rubberurethane bushings which allow components to flex and also isolate the suspension from the body (for noise control-NVH to engineers). These have elastic limits which excessive stress can exceed and result in things being out of place. Components wear springs among them. When a car sits lower due to sagging springs the camber is effectively changed causing inner edge tire wear. My point Alignment changes occur naturally due to wear and unusually due to impact. How much impact Hard to say. Depends on a lot of factors. If a tire or wheel is damaged chances are the alignment is off. If your dentures popped out of your mouth when you hit a pothole or your car launched five feet into the air due to the speed bump you didnt see or you did a little off-roading when Bubba bet his Jeep could get to deer camp faster than your 3 series then chances are your alignment is out of whack. yeah its elitist to say but nobody who drives a 3 series would even know what deer camp (also called beer camp) is let alone where it is. If I said X3 or X5 it wouldnt be as funny though.
