BMW SERIES 5 E39 Water in wiper motor

So I thought I would share this. Ive searched and only found a few references to this problem. My suspicion is that when someone takes their car to the dealer and they find the motor isnt functioning they just chuck it and replace it. I doubt they actually take the motor apart and try to see if they can fix it. Maybe Im wrong about that but that is my impression. Anyway my wipers failed to work about

Anybody with knowledge of changing the wiper motor please let me know if this is a simple process or should I just take it to the mechanic- thanks.

So my 87 cabbie has decided that it only needs to work 1 windshield wiper...and the motor on it is pretty weak...it even has a tendency to get stuck sometimes so Im pretty sure I need a new wiper motor. How much of a PITA is working on the wipers Is there a DIY I need to be looking at or what The driverside one works(as long as its not getting stuck) and the passenger side one is so weak that it doesnt even move.

So its a few days later and it wasnt loose nuts and I replaced the wiper motor. The problem was that the spindle on the old motor had worn along with the spindle hole in the linkage. I called a bunch of places including a bmw dealer for the one linkage part and everybody sells the ENTIRE ASSEMBLY ONLY- even salvage Its a 2 12 inch ball and socket piece- and its known to happen and I cant get it without

BMW SERIES 3 E30 wiper motor

Hey Guys I bought a 1986 325e for parts and decided to drive it. The wipers didnt work so I was going to replace the motor. My nephew thought it to be a nice gesture to replace it while I was out of town. He got the old one out but couldnt remember how to replace everything back the way it was. I have no idea what it looked like before his kind heart got me in this mess. I love em dearly but we need a lil help. Can someone please post a picture of this area if possible. Thanx guys.

Id recommend getting a new wiper transmission connector while your in there. I replaced the motor on my 85 a few months ago within a month it burnt up because there was too much slop between motor to the transmission.. commom problem from what the bmw Store told me. Cost me less than 20 bucks and now my wipers work beautifully.

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Windshield Wiper Motor

Good Afternoon bmw Fans I have a 1999 528i 4 door 6 cyl. My windshield wiper motor has been diagnosed as being dead. I particulary do not want to pay the 630.00 quoted to me for partlabor. I found the motor for 116.00 and want to replace it myself. I can find my way around a vehicle when I need to but I am not extremely mechancially inclined. My question is where do I begin to replace the motor. All

1... 1. Change the wiper relay(s). They are cheap about 10 each. 2. If that does not work then replace the wiper motor httpwww.bmwland.co.uktalkerviewtopic.phpp843078

BMW SERIES 3 E30 windshield wiper motor and linkage

I am replacing my windshield wiper linkage and motor. They are stripped so I got the whole assembly from a junkyard. I got as far as removing the heater motor but when I try to remove the housing I only see two retaining clips. Does anyone know how to get to and remove the 2 other clips which I assume are on the top

Which clip you talking about I know when I replaced the motor and linkage arm from the motor to the transmission ( number 5 on the illustration) I did not have to take the blower motor out. The linkage arm from bmw is realitivaly inexpensive and comes with bushings (They told me this is a common problem on these e30s) I used a pair of vice grips to press the bushing onto the ball socket on the linkage. Now I have beautifuly working wipers.

BMW SERIES 3 E30 Remove Wiper Motor

I searched the threads and havent found a concrete answer on how to pull the wiper motor and linkage hopefully you can provide some guidance. I have an 87 325es. The motor runs but the wipers dont wipe. I read a post here that said the problem may be the nut that hold the motor arm to the linkage. My motor is covered by a black plastic housing which hides the nut. I went through the Haynes manal and

thanks misterlance. Ive got the firewall cover off the access panels out the wiper arms off the blower and its housing removed and the black plastic motor cover. I want to pull the wiper motor and linkage out through the firewall so I can inspect it. The Haynes manual tells me I have to pull the motor and linkage out as one and I agree I cant see a way to unmount the wiper motor from the bracket while

BMW SERIES 5 E39 E39 Wiper Motor

My 1997 540i wipers stopped dead in the water...no pun intended. Relays checked & replaced with four relays and new fuses--- from the San Diego bmw wrecking yard. Is there a way to check the wiper motor or switches on the steering wheel stalk Appreciate the help

You could pull the drivers side cabin filter housing off (under the hood) to access the wiper motor. See if you are getting power to the motor or supply a power source to the motor to see if the wiper motor works.

BMW SERIES 3 E46 snow and wiper motor...malfunction

My wife was coming home from work and a heavy wet snow was coming down. She used the wipers as the snow was building up on the windshield and caused them to stop. Now whenever the wiper are on and stopped they dont return to the down position but remain half way up the windshield. bmw dealer just looked at it and said theres probably a stripped gear and need to replace the motor (which seems to work

The wiper blade arms are attached to the drive pinion shafts via a finely splined shaft and secured with a cap or acorn type nut. The splines allow the armsblades to be driven back and forth without slipping on the shaft. They also allow for adjustment on the shaft relative to each other and position on the windshield. I have seen wiper arm splines stripped when wipers where activated with blades frozen

If both wipers are still operating in tandem (parallel) and sweeping correctly (just not parking correctly) then the individual splined wiper mounts have not slipped. Rather the linkage attached to the motor has slipped out of position. Go here and look at post 6 for instructions. httpwww.e46fanatics.comforumsho...d.phpt881385 And here is the assembly drawing httpwww.realoem.combmwshowparts...70&hg61&fg45

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Wipers wont shut off - DIY for WIPER MOTOR replacement

Hi Guys My wipers wont shut off once they are started. Ive searched the forum and lots of people have experience wipers wont turning it on but not wipers not turning off. So i decided to go w replacing with wiper module relay (still does not shut off) my next step is to switch wiper motor and after that wiper switch To start off with wiper motor i dont know where it is located and how it is removed.

Are they running right now If not how do you get them to shut off If they stop in random positions it may just be a dirty parking switch in the wiper gearbox. The wiper mechanism and motor are under the cowl cover beneath the wiper arm shafts. Youll need to pull the wiper arms with a suitable puller. The vent ducts and filter must also be removed.

Something tells me this is more of the general module rather than the wiper motor...Replacing the wiper motor may not fix your issue.

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Passenger Side Wiper Motor Stopped WorkingHELP

I have a 2001 530i. Last night on my way to school right in the middle of the Van Wick Expressway my passenger side windshield wiper motor froze on me. I didnt notice until the driver side hit it and broke the driver side blade. I had to exit God knows where pull over and switch the blades as the passenger side was still good. Once I put light pressure on the passenger side wiper it collapsed to nuetral

Ladies & Gentlemen Here is a lesson in attention to detail. I removed the wiper arms first. Then the screws for the molding at the bottom of the windshield. Next the Cabin Air filter housings (that are suprisingly easy to remove One clip over the nut remove nut a little shimying and they pop out). The rubber leading edge guard molding over the windshield molding Which underneath are three clips. remove

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Wiper Motor or Relay Question

Hi Everyone So recently my 1997 528is wiper blades just stopped midway on the windshield during a rainy day. I know there are a lot of threads out their on windshield wipers but couldnt really find a situation similar to mine. Now I can manually push them back down to their normal horizontal position. But everytime I turn them back on they go up halfway and then stop and I hear a very loud noise coming

It is possible your linkage is slipping off the motor shaft or that the linkage has come loose somewhere and is binding. Get in there and do a visual inspection before buying anything. I highly doubt it is a bad motor. Quote Originally Posted by shortedaman I changed both and it fixex the problem. Hard part is gettin the aligned right after install. BMW SERIES 5 E39 Windshield Wiper Motor replacement

I dont wanna mess it up so I would like some advice if someone has done this before or knows of any possible problems or things that I should watch out for. I would appreciate any information that you could give me. Thanks guys.

BMW SERIES 5 E39 1999 528i wagon wiper motor

Turned on wipers yesterday and they moved to about midway of travel then they stopped and only a groaning noise from the wiper motor. The switch would not turn off the motor. I had to stop the car turn off the ignition and then restart to stop the groaning. Then I had to manually return the wipers to start position. I tried the wipers one more time and the same thing happened. Do I need a new wiper motor or is something else wrong

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Changing wiper motor and need help with something

How do you get the fastners (looks like phillips screw heads) off the cowl that is under the wiper arms They turn like normal screws but never unscrew. These are not the regular bmw push in deals but actual screws by the looks of them.

Now that youve done it maybe you can add a post of what you learned to the wiper motor DIYs ... so others have an easier time of it than you did. - How to replace the wiper arm ( 1 ) ( 2 ) & troubleshooting or replacing the wiper motor ( 1 ) ( 2 ) ( 3 ) ( 4 ) ( 5 ) ( 6 ) ( 7 ) or wiper switch ( 1 ) or wiper relay ( 1 ) Note Ive never done it so I have no idea how good (or bad) those links are above. It would be nice for you to let us know so the next person benefits.

Ok the wiper motors fixed. Water had leaked into the area under the cowl. What happens is the motor is sealed so water cant get into the motor thru those spots but it has a tiny hole for venting which is on the bottom of the transmission thats attached to the motor. So when water pools up in the area under the cowl it goes in that vent hole and gets into the housing of the motor itself. In my cars

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Problem with wiper motor

Folks Weird thing happen to me last nite while driving. It was raining really hard in NY so I turned on the wipers it was working fine for a while then all of a sudden it stop working. so first what I did was pull over turn off the car and turned it back on then it worked for a while 20 minutes later it stop working again. BMW SERIES 3 E30 blower motor housing - broke during wiper motor replacement

So I was working this weekend on replacing my wiper motor and broke the top half of the blower motor housing. BMW SERIES 5 E39 How do I remove the wiper motor

Please help me. Car is a 00 528i I need some directions on how to remove the wiper motor. What tools are needed and how to do it etc Thanks in advance. Joshua

Ok guys I got it. Come to find out nobody ever replaces the wiper motor on these cars. Even the tech at the dealer said he had never done one and the parts guy said he never sold one. So the only tricky part is removing the arms and then the motor itself. You will need a battery terminal puller to do this. I borrowed a Craftsman brand and it was the perfect size to fit. Just install the tool and crank

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Noisy Wiper Motor--97 540i

Has anyone else had a problem with a very noisy wiper motor The motor runs the wipers fine (for now) however its distinctly louder than any other vehicle Ive seen. BMW SERIES 3 E30 Wiper motor fuse

Every time I try to use my wipers they move about 2-3 inches before the fuse that controls them blows. I tried buying new wiper blades to see if it was just the blades dragging too much but its not. Does this sound like just my motor is bad or the entire assembly

Make a witness mark on the drive lever and motor shaft then disconnect the drive lever from the motor and try running it with no load. It should run smooth and quiet. Then with the motor still disconnected try moving the wipers by hand with both wiper arms in the wash the windshield position (not touching the glass). The whole mechanism should move pretty easily. The motor is probably on its last legs.

BMW SERIES 5 E39 windshield wiper motor

Just had to have a windshield wiper motor replaced (500.00) in a 97 528i with 100000 miles because on intermittant and stop the wipers would not return to correct stop position. Otherwise they worked ok. I have kept cars for 18 years and never had this one. Is this unique or have others experienced this problem. Thanks.

Hi have you found the instructions for replacing the wiper motor. My wipers wont park. I replaced the relay. problem discription the wipers will work for 16 seconds then stop (in a random position) then after 34 minutes (or after turn off with the key) the wipers will work again for 16 seconds.
