BMW SERIES 5 E39 How do you remove hood locks

How do you remove the 2 bonnethood locks is it possible to remove them without removing radiator etc [I have lubricated really well the hood release cables joins and 2 lock mechanisms but even though the spring wires in the 2 hood locks move freely now they will not return after pulling the release lever inside the car. I am now thinking I will have to remove them and the operating cables and clean or replace them.] Thanks Dave.

The E39 appears to be substantially different than the E36 at least from the E36 pictures. You may be able to remove the top crossmember to which the latches are bolted as are several other things. Otherwise it looks like a bumper removal job. The bumper comes off more easily than it might look from what Ive read. Check this site for removal instructions. Youll also have the opportunity to clean the

BMW SERIES 5 E39 5 2000 wagon locked out.

Tues. 30 Nov. 2010 A) I read all posts concerning how to override electronic locks (dead battery)--pulling the handle holding the handle while turning the key rightleft using the valet key etc.. B) I read the manual (most uninformative was info on accessing the locked rear FROM INSIDE the cargo area... Duh...) C) This model has 1 lock Ive used a non-func electronic key for about 5 years--no problem--manually

To All Thank you for your interest & suggestions. Happy reading... Heres what happened 1)I called around to auto locksmiths (waste of time) one was absolutely correct when he said nope cant help... 1) I called the bmw dealer--3x today Adviser 1 There is a manual key inside your electronic key...pull the top and you can use that key to manually unlock your car. My key does not have an extra key. Adviser

BMW SERIES 3 E36 Hood alignment question

The front corner of the drivers side of my hood (95 325is) is high and the passenger front corner is low. I do not see any hood adjustment knobs like I see on some cars. If I push the drivers front down you can hear a slight clunk like when the post on the hood catches in the hole of the body. When the hood is shut I can pull the drivers front corner up some with feeling a slight slip of the locking

When I first got my car the hood was really low on trhe passenger side and just low on the drivers side. The hood release felt like it was going to snap the cable before it let go. I adjusted the spring loaded pins under the hood by putting a screwdriver in the end and using a 17mm open end wrench to undo the locknut. The more you wind the pin out (I counted half turns at a time) the higher your hood

BMW SERIES 3 E30 Broken Hood Latch Cable.

MY son snapped the hood latch cable on his 88 E30. I spent some time this morning under neath nd peering theu the grille but cant seem to locate a way to undo the hood latch from outside. I know Im probably just missing something obvious but Id sure be appreciative if somebody could let me know hos to get the hood open fromthe outside. thanks Robb

you can access the lock mechanism behind the drivers side light. The two bolts to the left hold the lock. Take the clips off the top of the plastic light grill and the two screws toward the bottom. It may be difficult getting the top clips off without the hood open but take the screws out and gently pry down on the top.

BMW SERIES 3 E30 Hood Latch

My hood latch isnt working.. The release cable is fine the hook that holds the hood down is not locking closed. Any Suggestions why or how to fix. This is my third e30 and this has never happened before. Im sure I could figure out how to fix but Im not even sure how to remove the hood latch Any help is appreciated.

You get access to the locking mechanism by removing the black plastic grill in front of the latch assembly...grill is held in place by some metal clips. Sometimes the mechanism works itself loose so it shifts itself further down. You need to adjust the mechanism up or down and sideways by first loosening the securing bolts..10mm if I recall correctly so that the hood latches firmly into it and with the hood pressing down slightly on the rubber stops...if the hood is too loose it can rattle

BMW SERIES 5 E39 under hood squeal

I have the 02 540. Just before getting home today started getting an under the hood squeal. At home I noticed the main belt one in front is fraying on the outside edge. No idea how long the belt has been on it has 113K. Would a bad belt cause a squeal Its there at idle and can hear it to about 3000rpm. Thoughts

i have seen several stories of people that broke that same bracket. The issue seems to be the bolts come loose over time. Try using thread locking compound like lock-tite when you put it back together to avoid another broken pump.

BMW SERIES 6 Spark Plugs

What is the preferred spark plug for an 05 645 While I am changing my valve cover gaskets it would seem like the smart thing to do. I am at 65K miles. Suggestions Thanks

I just replaced spark plugs on my 2005 645CI. If it wasnt for the posts on this site I would have been screwed. Thanks guys. Each person had a story and their set of tools that they recommended. I will post a picture of tools I used if asked. They worked very well. I did not need angled joints and did not have to remove anything extra for any plugs except for the back two plugs (drivers and passengers side). For drivers side as others noted all you have to do is unscrew one 10mm bolt attaching the battery cable to the frame and allow the cable to move a little to get the coil out. (others noted to disconnect battery before doing this and I did. I did not have to disconnect the battery cables under the hood so I am not sure why to disconnect battery but did it anyways. For passenger side remove the two 10mm bolts holding the AC lines to the frame. I found that once you remove the bolts pull out the AC lines out of the screws (away from the frame) and push them down so that the rubber ring is stuck under the frame screw. This will keep the AC lines away (pushed about 1 inch down) so that you can easily remove coil remove plug install new plug and put the coil back in. I have finished the job but can get you picture of the AC line and bolt area if needed. Then you free the rubber from under the screw put them back in the proper place. (One thing to notice is that there are two small cylinder shape pieces inside the rubbers (one for each) that may fall out if you dont pay attention to them. After unscrewing the two bolts while pulling out the AC lines from screws watch out for the cylinder shape inserts inside the rubbers. Best to take them out put them aside and re-insert them right before putting the bolts back in.) Your biggest problem is if you drop something. It is pain to fetch stuff. Dont do this work if you are in rush (maybe it is a good idea to take the engine under-tray off before doing this work so hopefully dropped stuff will fall to the floor. But dont bet on it it is crowded down there) There are 4 pieces of metal that keep the coils down in place (one piece for every two coils.) It is held by one Torx screw. Easy to unscrew and take off to get access to coils but if you unscrew them without holding to the metal the metal piece falls and fetching it is not easy (I learned the hard way). Hold on to the metal piece while taking the screw off. Here are the tools that I used and they did make it easy. - 14 Inch Drive Quick Release Ratchet with a flexible head joint. (used for small torx socket and 10mm socket to unscrew battery cable bolt and AC line bolts.) - 38 Inch Drive Quick Release Ratchet with a flexible head joint. - One flexible magnetic tool pick up. I bought an 18 inch one from eBay for 3. httpwww.ebay.comitm180780884836...ht_2108wt_1175 - 58 (16mm) spark plug socket with a 38 adapter head. A magnetic one would be nice I did not have one so I fetched all 8 plugs from the hole using my flexible magnet. - Two locking (or at least tight) extension pieces for 38 ratchet (they are standard about 3 inch each). You need this and not a long one. For some plugs you have room to insert the spark plug socket and one extension and then push the second extension onto the first extension already in the hole. This works perfect because with the length of spark plug socket and both extensions you are at the perfect length to put you 318 ratchet and openunscrew all 8 plugs and screw them back in. I could not put my 38 torque tool on many of the plugs (did not have flexible head and too bulky). So I used my own judgement to screw plugs with an extra 14 to 12 turn after hand tightened the plugs. Also the Plug socket wioth 2 extenstions will allow you to easily hand tighten all spark plugs and gives you great feel for not threading wrong. Some people recommended hose on a plug. I tried that but if the hose is not absolutely straight (mine was bent) could not use it. Some people are recommending anti-seize on new plug threads. NGK plugs that I used (NGK in general) says never to use anti-seize because of special coating that they are already on th threads. I go with the manufacturers recommendation. The old plugs that I took out (original) were also NGK with an extra bmw logo on them. Good luck.

Had a leak on my oil cooler on my 08 535xi and it was getting annoying. Finally after another issue with an oil leak (another story my own fault) I decided to fix this one. BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 Unintended acceleration

Last Saturday 7 September 2013 I slowly drove up to a parking place at the Sullivans Island SC Post Office. Without reason my 328i Sports wagon accelerated at a high rate of speed causing it to go over a 10inch sidewalk and into a low area beside the Post Office. I hit a Post Office sign and brushed against the brick Post Office building. While there was no damage to the building and the sign there

Interesting. I am of course just as skeptical as the next person but there are a few mitigating circumstances which might be coming into play. It is hard to imagine that two independent systems should fail simultaneously and then spontaneously return to normal operation afterwards so if the events described are accurate there must have been a common transient cause. Im not sure that the throttle and

BMW SERIES 3 E36 Jump Start

Dear bmw Owners Is there any way that I could jump start my 1999 bmw 328i 4 dr sedan from the hood My trunk wouldnt open electronically and manually. Grateful if anyone can direct me. Ramond

When you push in the trunk button does in go in freely like when its locked If so there is a fuse to the trunk lock (on my 94ic it is fuse 7 under the hood in front of the driver closests to the windshield fuse box). That removes my safety switch. Yours will likely be different. Try the Bently Manual. You can find downloads to it all over this forum. If you get resistance when your button is pushed

BMW SERIES 3 E36 Convertible Roof Problems - E36 94

Hey Guys I have a e36 94 con semi auto thats having some problems and Im looking to diagnose the problem. It was fully working previously as expected however developed the common loud obnoxious clicking noise on attempting to shut that caused me to pull the gear disengage lever. I found that the tension bar had bent. So So since then Ive been using it manually until I recently replaced the bent rod.

for anyone that reads this after having the same problem i got this working After replacing the bent tension rod I found my hood motor wasnt working. So the lid would rise but then nothing would happen. All I did was tighten the bolts that held the motor in place (the four screws in the hood cabin). I then got ready for another sync however I held down which then engaged and locked the lid. I then

BMW SERIES 3 E46 New and inexperienced

Hi Im pretty new to bimmerfest and this is my first post. I have an 04 325i which i baught used with 55k on it for 14k. I went in the dealership looking for a truck but came out with a beautiful silver bmw instead. Lol. Had the car for 8 months now and havent really had any big problems with it. Though i had to take to the shop once to replace the front bushing controls but it was no biggie. Anyways

When you put your key into the trunk keyhole you can either turn it so the keyhole slot is vertical or horizontal. Vertical means you can use the trunk release button next to the hood release to open the trunk or if all doors are unlocked the trunk handle will open the trunk. Horizontal means the trunk is dead bolted which means the trunk release button next to the hood release will not open the trunk
