BMW SERIES 5 E39 Its my turn for the E39 TRANS. FAILSAFE PROG transmission failure stuck in high gear

Bad news on the eve of a long road trip to Tahoe this weekend Its suddenly and unexpectantly my turn for the E39 TRANS. FAILSAFE PROG transmission failure error message. After fueling up so that Im ready to leave before dawn early Friday morning the automatic transmission wouldnt shift out of high gear and showed the dreaded TRANS FAILSAFE PROG error message on the cluster. Changing plans I cancelled

After some great help from CTSC I finally figured the solenoid 4E87 is outside the trans above the top of the gear shift. In order to get to it you have pull out the following in sequence. 1. Hazard switch 2. Panel holding the air vents 3. Front panel containing the controls to AC etc 4. Lower panel where your NAV DVD section. 5. The centre knob 6. Menu switch 7. gear shift knob cover drive panel (which indicate which gear you are in) 8. The complete mid section panel. 9. Cigarette lighter holder And now finally if you see right above the gear shift you will see a cable going into the gear shift. That little connector wire is going into the solenoid 4E87 (picture attached). Now back to my problem. During cold start I get a warning for this solenoid not being functional and then it disappears after few minutes. I have checked the solenoid is fine to its resistance of 19-21 Ohms and the connecting cable has the right voltage during the day time but strangely at cold start the cable does not have any voltage at all for few minutes thus causing that fault message. Does anyone has any idea why the cable will not have voltage for first few minutes Anyone good with bmw WDS and know where the current in this cable is coming from that I can diagnose further

BMW SERIES 3 E46 When your car is off....manual drivers park in gear

Manual users - when you turn your car off and (hopefully) pull the e-brake do you leave the car in gear Are there any adverse effects if you do or do not leave it in gear I usually do. When the car is parked uphill I leave it in reverse as I imagine it cant be too good for the engine to turn backwards. What about you guys

first. The gearing in first multiplies the engine torque so you can accelerate faster. The gearing also multiplies the torque from the weight of the car which is trying to rotate the engine. The least multiplication of engine torque is in top gear. That will make it harder for the weight of the car to turn the engine over to move the car with the engine off. I havent really looked at how my 2009 bmw

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Throttle bodycable

Is there a way to adjust the throttle bodycable to make it more responsive if you look at the pictures in this thread second row first picture where the throttle body has the cable connected to it httpwww.bimmerfest.comforumssho...754&highlight

99 and 00 were partial fly-by-wire Siemens MS 42 engine management. The correct adjustment for the throttle cable is 1 to3 mm slack per Bentley manual. The throttle cable attaches to the side of the throttle body housing (MDK motor driven throttle) where a series of disconnects (springs) allows the DSC to override the drivers input to the throttle body buttterfly valveplate. BMW SERIES 5 E39 Tighten Exterior Door Handle Cable

Hello Two of my exterior door handles seem loose meaning they dont pop the door open. The interior handles on the same doors work fine but the exterior arent unlatching the door until the handles are pulled to the extreme. I opened the door panel and noticed the cable for the exterior handles are not pulling the cable as much as they should be. Both exterior handles have been replaced its possible

Still no luck. The new handles came from a bmw dealer. The plastic fittings are all in the right spot but the cable is just not pulling enough. Im talking an 18 maybe 14 off from unlatching the door. Im wondering if the gear teeth on the handle are matching up correctly with the gear teeth on the handle mount. Has anyone heard of this being an issue I cant find an image so its hard to describe.

BMW SERIES 3 E36 Help Clutch Cable Trouble...

Hello everyone my name is michael and i have recently purchased myself a 1993 bmw 318 is. it is very nice and the engine is in perfect working condition and i have to say that the last few days have been raging. however as with everything in my life there is a catch... the only problem i am having is that the clutch wont fully engage... so basically when the car is on and in neutral and i push the

motion to push the lever forward for reverse is totally the opposite of what people are used to where you pull it back from park to reverse. And PLEASE - re-think your comment.... Personally I think these cases are what happens when you have very old people driving cars like the 7 series give that some more thought. All that means is that people have been doing the same thing all their life and bmw

it seems that you did a pretty good job of covering part 12 with your notes. that being said why would you think that by loosening one part which allows the cable to move (and then tighten it there) you would need to adjust another part to fix it back again heres what i suggest. put the gear selector in park (set the parking brake so you are safe) loosen the fastener you tightened and put the transmission

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Seat gear boxes stripped and seats tilt crooked -- please help

Hi friends just got done doing a bunch of repairs on my e39 only to be told replacing the seat gear boxes (2 per side) will cost 500 per seat restoration services to get access to the boxes inside the seats. The front seats recline but come forward crooked due to the cables sliding through the gear boxes. Are their any alternatives What can be done Just spent a ton of money fixing other things on the car. Any recomendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks QSilver7 I was told by a reliable mechanic the cable were already adjusted then the seat tilted back only to come up crooked again. The shop said the seat motor is fine but they think the gearbox which is up into the bottom of the seat is bad. They recommend replacing both sides (two gear boxes per seat) and the seats must go to an upholstry shop to be opened up in order to access the gearboxes

Im not clear on what tension cables youre referring to unless you mean the release cables that are connected to that lever under the back seat and run to the motors in the trunk. Your cable probably broke where its connected to the trans. You can actually reach under the car and put it into whatever gear you want but dont do it while the engine is running. Its not hard to replace. Take the top of the console apart unclip the cable assembly unbolt it etc. When you take the linkage on the trans apart clean it up and lubricate it so it operates properly.
