BMW SERIES 3 E46 Fuel GaugeTank problems

Hi everyone Thanks for the previous threads on fuel gauge problems. I wasnt able to find something quite similar enough to my problem so Im going to post a new thread. I have a 325i with the M54 engine. My car runs normally until I hit a quarter tank left at which point it seems I have run out of gas. I was told that most likely one of the fuel gauge sensors is gummed up so I have repeatedly tried

take 16 - 17gal). Is there another fuel pump that I dont know about that pumps fuel from the smaller expansion tank (I bought a Chilton repair manual for 3 series and have been tearing through it as well but havent been able to figure this out) Thanks in advance for your help Hey Tice Welcome. While there is not truly a separate auxiliary fuel tank the tank is somewhat saddle shaped. (see httpbmwfans.infopartscatalogE4...taching_parts

filter yet What about the fuel pump After seeing a picture of the x5 fuel tank online it looks like the fuel tank is divided in half more equally over the drive shaft than my 325i tank is so it might make sense that you are loosing half your tank instead of a quarter assuming you are having an issue similar to mine. It also appears that the x5 uses a sucking jet pump or siphon similar to the 3 series

confused about whilst driving after the u turn and watching a 19 6.0 menu the the left side moved from 1liter to 2 to 3 to 4 until it was at 9. And this is when im driving slowly on a flat road. This means that my pump and the filter are working fine as the excess fuel from the injectors is being returned into the tank where there inst a pump. But now why is the jet now moving it So i went to bmw

BMW SERIES 3 E36 Excessive amount of vacuum in fuel tank

Im not sure if this is the problem but it seems like it tried searching the forums too but Im not finding anything similar posted so far. Recently replaced my fuel pump with a new one - as a process of elimination for another problem - and in the process knocked a wire off for the fuel gauge. Soldered it back on problem solved. BMW SERIES 3 E46 Help with New Fuel Tank 2004 325CI in California

I drive or should I say used to drive a 2004 325Ci which is now being parked at the mechanics shop. I was told the fuel tank needed to be replaced because the fuel Pump is built in it. They called the nearest dealer and they want 6400 for the parts not including labor. I already spend 1500 at the mechanic for him to break down the car and tell me what was wrong with it. He has been looking at junk

You could TRY to talk bmw into replacing it under the below referenced SIB and warranty. Do some research on it and be prepared to be shot down....but with the price tag involved its worth a few minutes to try to talk them into covering it. From bmws SIB 11 75 02 The updated 2.5 liter engine designated M56B25 has been phased into production on E46 Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (SULEV) along with

BMW SERIES 3 E36 Draining the Fuel Tank

Hey everyone Im new to both the forum and the world of bmws. Looks like a great community Having recently purchased a 95 325is that was stored every winter and apparently only driven twice last year Im wondering what to do with the 35 or so liters of fuel left in the tank. Its highly likely that at least part of that fuel has been in there for 2 years now. The engine runs on it (only driven it about

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Fuel Gasket Burst - over filling the gas tank

I had a gas leak the other day and towed my 540 to the dealership. I was told both my fuel line gaskets burst because I over-filled the gas tank. I have had many cars over the years and this is a first time I have heard of this. Is this the real reason for the gasket problem If so why a bmw Mario

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Draining and Flushing Fuel Tank Necessary

Just out of curiousity when replacing fuel filter (and possibly fuel lines) will it be necessary or a good idea to just go ahead and drain (or flush out) the fuel tank as well Im saying this because if the fuel filter is all clogged up and dirty wouldnt that mean there could be some sediment build up in the tank after 15 years and 190k miles later Or not necessarily. I am assuming that thatll be a

able to see inside the fuel tank and know at that point it doesnt need flushing. You can look at the cavity the fuel pump sets into in the tank and if there is any sediment it will be located there around the pickup screen location in the tank. Change your fuel filter and move on. And why the hell do you want to change the fuel lines That seems like a waste of time and money. I havent heard of a bmw

BMW SERIES 5 E34 Avoid sparks inside fuel tank

Hi all. I just removed the fuel pump from inside the tank and theres something confusing me. The wires connected to the pump inside the tank are not protected. Meaning fuel is surrounding the wires and nothing isolating the connections. What confuses me is if any spark occurs inside the tank fuel can be ignited by sparks and how did bmw managed to avoid sparks inside the tank In my work any time we

BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 2010 328i Fuel tank replacement transmission problems

2010 328i AT- 18.5kmiles. fuel level moving up. Fixreplace fuel tank because 1 of 2 tank sensors went bad. Full engine scope was due with no problems. Picked up the same day Cant believe they had one tank in stock. But on return from a 1.5 hour highway trip in cruise control going up slight hill speed drops cruise control cannot keep up. Car is being towed to my bmw dealer now. Will report what happened. In trying to find out if there was already another thread the X3 06-10 transmission problems seem to read like my problems. However about 140 miles after the fuel tank replacement is when my problem started showing up. BTW- the fuel level indicator (original problem) seems to be working fine now.

My earlier post related a newly replaced fuel tank on a 2010 328i to low power performance. Turns out it was a failingfailed fuel pump which was replaced and all working smoothly now. I thought fuel pump issues were limited to 335i engines. Talk about reliability replaced fuel tank resulting in inaccurate fuel gauge levels and a new fuel pump - all in less than a week. bmw says the two are not related. Coincidence.

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Anyone have a fuel tank siphon problem or replace it

Did a search in this forum and didnt find anything on it. Heres the problem - my car was running out of gas with slightly less than a 14 tank indicated on the cluster the OBC indicated that there was 70 miles or so remaining in range the tank would only take about 14 gallons to fill. After wrestling with the dealer to convince them that the problem wasnt the gauge and that the car did have a tank bigger

I wish more people would do this on this site and Im not saying you havent done this already. Think outside the box alittle. Try jegs.com or summitracing.com. Not sure what your car skills are but you can overhaul your entire fuel system for a fraction of the cost the stealer would charge you. It will be 10xs more reliable as well. Cars are cars. Just because its a bmw doesnt mean everything on the

price . does anyone one know where i can get the whole fuel assembly including the pump for a reasonable price in California. Ill just have everything changed. Siphon Pump is PN 16116752839 . BMW SERIES 3 E46 Is it ok to fill your fuel up your tank everyday

Hey guys Im just curious started a habit filling up my gas tank everyday at night no matter how much I drove that day. I always bring the car home with a full tank. I notice sometimes the needle moves a little after going 40km in the city. I fill up it stays there for about 5km or 6km until the full guage reads fully filled past the white tick mark. Is there something wrong with that I hope nothing is wrong with doing this.

Im of two minds on this... In other cars Ive owned (Hondas and Toyotas) the handling was much better with a full tank (more weight in the rear) and you could really tell the difference. I kept them full as much as possible. However you do get better gas mileage the further down the tank you go so I started running my cars until the light came on. With my bmw I dont feel a real difference in the handling

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Safe to use Fuel Pump to empty tank

Im trying to debug a fuel system problem. Im wondering if its safe to disconnect the supply line from the fuel filter and turn the fuel pump on briefly by shunting the fuel pump relay. Right now its 3.5 A as

BMW SERIES 3 E30 In tank fuel pump

I have an 89 325 and the fuel pump is kaput. Ive read the threads about the vega fuel pump but Im kind of unsure as to how to wire it. Ive checked the relay with a volt meter and its ok. Dont know if I should try to go the Vega route or order a replacement. One question I have is about the four 8mm nuts that hold the fuel pump. Is it necessary to remove the whole unit or simply the four nuts and lift the fuel pump out of the tank Thanks in advance Charlie

BMW SERIES 3 E46 Comments please Right fuel tank full and left tank close to empty

Hello. I have been experiencing some problem with the fuel tank. I now have an hypothesis of whats going on. Would you please give me some comments In the last two fuel ups I notice the gas nozzle stopped pumping quickly. Checking the reading on the amount of fuel pumped I was sure the tank couldnt be full so quickly. I had to tried pumping again it restarted but again soon the nozzle stopped pumping

There are sensors on both sides - (otherwise how would the OBC know theres a difference between the sides. The problem has got to be either with the sensor or the left side siphon (piece 3) httpwww.realoem.combmwshowparts...73&hg16&fg15 with my guess being a sensor problem as the more likely part tp fail. For one thing the fill connection has no way to distinguish between the tanks and for a second

BMW SERIES 3 E46 2003 BMW 325i M56(SULEV) Fuel Tank Help

Hey guys just ran into a problem with my fuel pump in this car. Ive read about and was told that its a sealed tank and the repair cost wouldnt justify getting it fixed which i agree fully. i was doing some searches on some used fuel tanks for this model and my question to you guys is does it have to be the SULEV tank or can i use a regular M54 model and if so is it just the tank and pump i have to replace or is it more

yea SULEV is truly a curse but i called bmwNA and they said they couldnt help me. I purchased the vehicle in california but now i stay in Florida so does the regulation still apply and will the M54 tank still fit finally does anyone know where i could find a used M56 fuel tank

BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 Question regarding fuel tank and reserve

The fuel tank is supposed to hold 16 U.S. gallons including a 2 gallon reserve. What has been everyones experience concerning the amount of fuel left in the tank when the gas gauge is at empty (i.e. the computer says you have zero miles left on the current tank of gas) When the gauge reads empty do you still have 2 gallons left More Less Please post your experience. BMW SERIES 5 E39 Left side Jet pump in fuel tank

Hi all Have some questions on the fuel tank. Looking up the realOem documents online I find that the fuel tank has a left side and right side fuel level sensor fuel pump and also what is called a left side jet pump. Using the secret display functions on the dashboard to see the level sensor values i find that the fuel level goes to nearly empty on one side of the tank before pulling from the other

Sounds far-fetched to me. Realoem does not show a sensor in the bottom of the tank httpwww.realoem.combmwshowparts...25&hg16&fg05 Id get a second opinion from a bmw specialist. Fungus grows in diesel fuel. You may have some in your tank which can clog passages. I believe there are elixirs out there to kill these buggers. We did not get the E39 diesel here in The Colonies so we have no experience with them.

BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 Fuel pump in gas tank

Had an interesting thing happen. When I would fill my tank up I started to smell gas when I parked the car. My dealer checked it out thought maybe it might just be overflow due to the expansion in the tank because of the intense heat we are having. Kept on happening. So after 5 hours of them looking at the car this week the fuel pump in the gas tank is cracked and leaking. Maybe the part will be in

The fuel is used for both cooling and lubrication. Yes the pump is submerged when the tank is full. But the syphen jet pump from the left to the right side of the fuel tank dispenses fuel constantly directly onto the pump. The pump sits in a small area inside the tank that stays full of fuel so it virtually never overheats. Also a cracked fuel pump doesnt make much since if you are smelling fuel outside
