This didnt help Or this Or even this Those were on the FIRST page of the link that Ed (jonesin) posted. If you actually watched those and you feel they did not help take your car to someone who know how to fix bmw windows because you arent going to find any more specific and helpful instructions than those.
kind of still didnt help but how about the sunroof help please
Window regulator and motor replacement httpwww.pelicanparts.combmwtech...er-Windows.htm sunroof repair httpwww.pelicanparts.combmwtech...78-sunroof.htm Electrical troubleshooting manual for your 1999 323is (has wire color codes so you can figure out what wires do what on the sunroof) Right click and save as httpwedophones.comManualsbmw19...g%20Manual.pdf
I have tried that. Do you think it could be the motor I havent used the sunroof for 6 months and I did try the sunroof without having both power plugs plugged in. Thanks Ted 1997 bmw 528i
Try using the manual sunroof crank from your toolkit to see if that can get the mechanism to move rearward. Do not force it if it doesnt. If certain pieces werent put back in the right positions this can happen. If you do find its your motor thats at fault I have one available.
I have already moved the sunroof completely forward and backward just to make sure I didnt break any of the new parts. If you have one let me know. My email is greenram21yahoo.com Thanks Ted
I tested the power but did not have small enough wires to test all of the power plugs. However everything seems good. If it is the motor what is the part number I have serched and couldnt find any information or price Thanks Ted 1997 bmw 528i
Checked realoem and it looks like it is just for the tourings. The front and back motor are the same though. httpwww.realoem.combmwshowparts...78&hg54&fg05

Look up the part number www.realoem.combmw order from www.mileoneparts.com .
Just a thought. Our sunroof would not open or do anything. Dealer checked the fuse... Simple fuse replacement worked like a charm.... Maybe youve already checked it Good luck
hey its happen to me before on numerous occasions if you take it to a dealer and get them to redo the software for the sunroof it should work fine. I think it has somthing to do with alignment and software. My local indy has redone my software about 2 times this year. Hope that helps
hey do you know how much that cost
The three bolts that hold the motor in are different lengths so keep track of locations. The motor may have to be synchronized with your sunroof for auto openclose feature but since you say you are putting in a new motor I would assume it will come syncd in the closed position. If it isnt syncd it is easy to do. Other than that it should be pretty straight forward have fun.
Thank you for the info. Actually the unit is new to me but used nevertheless. Hopefully scyncronizing the motor is not too much of a problem. Dan
Is there any reason that you would be unable to get to the dealer Thats where I got mine. I think it was about 20.

Is it time for an Alcantara headliner Cant think of another source but you might have some luck with eBay.

Couple of ideas 1) Did you change or disassemble the switch during the replacement as well Sounds like the connections inside are reversed 2) If not did you order the proper replacement motor Pre 99 have different motors than Post 99 as shown by 2 separate connectors on the motor side vs one on Post 99 3) Might have to disconnect power to the battery for 20 mins to reset. The electronic reset does
I havent learned anything about the sunroof simply because mine works but typing sunroof f3 in the VERY best of E39 Links nets a few places to start - How to repair & reset the sunroof or moonroof ( 1 ) ( 2 ) ( 3 ) & how to fix sun roof rattles ( 1 ) & how to test & fix sunmoon roof leaks ( 1 ) ( 2 ) ( 3 ) ( 4 ) ( 5 ) ( 6 ) causing water on the front passenger carpet & how to remove the headliner (
Sorry for the Delay Getting back with an update the resolution was disconnect the Battery i let it sit disconnected for the entire Football Game reconnected it and did a sunroof after reset sunroof responds as it should...Thanks All for the assistance
I dont think it is possible to help much from online but Ill give it a shot. These connectors usually clip to a bracket. It helps to remove them first. look for a small tab near the middle on the side attached to the bracket. Move that sideways and slide the connector off. After it is off the bracket release the clips on the sides and pull apart. Its been quite a while since i took anything in there
