BMW SERIES 5 E39 Is this part of the cooling system overhaulOil and Fume separator

Alright Im in the process of probably and not really wanting to get rid of my 03 540. I showed the car to some guy yesterday and he works at a local bmw dealership. I assumed the cooling system was done bc I called the dealership in Florida where I originally bought the car and they told me the radiator hoses fan etc had been replaced already. The potential buyer ran a check on the car and told me

BMW SERIES 3 E36 Water in my engine and oil in my cooling system.

So my car is MANGLED. But if water got into my engine would that mean my cooling system would be pretty messed up too

Im just wondering if water gets into your engine would oil get into the cooling system not sure if that happens thats what the mechanic told me.

A failed head gasket repair requires that the cylinder head be removed checked for cracks warping and machined flat again if necessary. Its pretty good amount of labor so expect to pay around 1200 to repair it. Do you have any ideas as to what caused the head gasket to fail Have you ever overheated the engine Quote Originally Posted by Chuck325 Im just wondering if water gets into your engine would

Quote Originally Posted by Chuck325 Im just wondering if water gets into your engine would oil get into the cooling system not sure if that happens thats what the mechanic told me. It depends on where the head gasket gets breached. There are both water and oil passages from the engine block to the cylinder head that are sealed by the head gasket. You can get a breach from a water passage to a cylinder

BMW SERIES 3 E36 Exhaust system full of oil

i have a 93 325i that had a blown head gasket and craked head i changed out the motor .... once i got the car running ..... after 10min smoke and oil would come out the tail pipe ....i then took off the exhaust system and let stand up right a few days later a lot of oil came out... my question is would a blown head gasket and cracked head cause oil to leak in the exhaust system and would the same exhaust

Yes a blown head gasket and especially a cracked head can fill the exhaust system with oil andor coolant depending on where the gasket blew or the head cracked. Just drive it. It will eventually burnblow all the oil out. The harder you run it the faster it will clean up. Seriously.

BMW SERIES 3 E46 Vacuum leak BMW says I need oil separator system

I took my car to the dealer this morning because of the SES light. Id had two different Indy shops look at it and they couldnt diagnose what was causing the light so I took it to the dealer because I wanted to an answer. They said the SES light was caused by an aftermarket air filter in the car. It was causing the MAF sensor to get hit too much which was what was tripping the light. They took me back

Bottom line is we can all thank bmw engineers for giving us shtty systems with WAY too many plastic parts (cooling system CVV window regulators ad nauseum). ALL these parts are substandard quality and are destined to fail....its not a matter of IF but WHEN.... The problem is that you cant just repairreplace one part of the CVV....all the hoses get so brittle that they litterally crumble in your hands

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Engine Oil Pressure light please help (and cooling system)

Hello again -). I am having another problem with my car. When i start my car nowadays it seems to run just fine. However after driving the car for a while (letting it heat up) once the car comes to a stop the red engine oil light starts to flicker on. If i press the gas it goes away. If i keep coming to a stop the light eventually becomes solid and the sign STOP ENGINE oil PRESSURE or something similar

shot but i dont think the pump is my problem either. i was doing some research and i think i may just be using the wrong grade oil. Im using mobil 1 10w30 synthetic i was looking into it and its not ACE-93 (or something liek that) nor LL-01 approved. according to some sites these oils thin out wayy to much when it gets hot or at normal operating temperature. im going to try changing my oil with bmw

UPDATE I got my oil change done (since it has been 6 months anyways). To try to be safe i went to an indie bmw shop and put in ll-98 approved A3 oil (castrol 5w40). So it didnt solve any problems although with the thicker oil (castrol 5w40) its taking a little longer for the oil light to come on. Lude how long did you have your oil light problem for do you still drive your car around did you find a

tube to the coupling and the other end to a calibrated (or know good) pressure gauge range 0- 100 psi. However as the V8 oil pan seems to be a lot easier to remove than the I6 (engine needs lifted a little) it maybe worth putting the effort into checking the oil pump bolts as qsilver7 and CN90 have suggested. CN90s suggestion is definetly worth checking out. Have attached wiring diagram ( www.bmw-planer.com

BMW SERIES 3 E46 OIL In COOLING System

Whats Up everybody..I need some help today I did a fluid check on my car and I noticed that there was oil in the coolant tank..I checked the oil and it was fine no sign of coolant in there also I have noticed the past 2 or 3 days when I first start my car up after the oil pressure bulids up the car starts to let out white smoke out the tail pipe. I know that theses are signs of a blown head gasket but can there be anything else possible that can be causing this to happen

So I brought my car in the shop today and they said head gasket is fine and if head was cracked car would run like sht I was told it might have to do with the oil cooler he gonna drain coolant tommorow and look futher in with the oil cooler. Is the oil cooler connected to the cooling system any more than the inside of the cylinders oil in the coolant would point to head gasket or cracked block right If theres a problem with the oil cooler how would that lead to oil getting in the radiator

BMW SERIES 3 E46 Entire cooling system and Oil Separator are going down

I ordered the parts and they will get here tomorrow. Tonight I will start taking the car apart Im a bit apprehensive this is the biggest project Ive ever done on a car. All previous projects were on motorcycles or were much smaller. Im going ahead and replacing all the major parts and Im also replacing the lines running underneath the intake manifold as well as the heater lines. While Im down there the CCV will also get replaced as well as the belts and whatever.

As I tell my kids you can do it I just did both on separate occasions. - Coolant get OEM hoses and sensors. Dont cheap out on those specific parts. Do the OFHG while there. It is not much more involved to replace that 6 gasket. Lube every hose o-ring before insertion. Shell thank you for it Take your time. It took me 2 days bc I was new to bmw. One last thing. Go to E46fanatics and learn how to bleed

Quote Originally Posted by delirium330 good luck i did the exact job about 6 months ago took me about 12 hours to do the cooling system CVV and OFHG. if youre doing all of this you should do the OFHG too it costs 5 and is easy to do plus gives you more room for the CVV (by the way it is CVV not CCV - Crankcase Ventilation Valve) the CDV is the clutch valve im not sure what CCV is Ah thanks on the CVV.

Im not sure what the error codes are. I had no indication that the oil separator needed replacing I just did anyway. If your car is drinking oil an coolant it might well be worth looking into. I dont think the intake needs to come off thats excessive but like I mentioned earlier the time was very convenient I had the parts and tools at a convenient place.

BMW SERIES 3 E30 Looking for exhaust system and oil pan

Looks like I will be in need of an entire new exhaust system due to a leak near the catalytic convertor (even though I dont have to do it right away seeing as it just passed inspection) and in all likelihood a new oil pan for my 86 325e. Both those things can be pretty costly so any websites or recommendations to find these cheaper would be greatly appreciated since I am also in the process of paying back college loans and trying to save for law school.

BMW SERIES 3 E46 Oil separator and t-stat done now cooling system is complaining

I followed Lberts excellent instructions and completed the replacement of a faulty oil separator and all 4 hoses today. In the process I also replaced both radiator hoses the water pump and the thermostat. After the job I didnt correctly bleed the coolant and got a temp warning when test driving it. I stopped immediately and added more coolant and water bled the system correctly and it seems to have
