BMW SERIES 3 E46 thermostat wire harness cover not really thread worthy but...

sorry for starting a thread on such an insignificant question but here goes. I changed my thermostat today and the little plastic box shaped cover that goes over the wiring harness broke. luckily I have to go to the dealer in the morning anyway for a recall but I was wondering...have any of you broken this cover and if so did you replace it or have you just been running without it it seems very insignificant

yes broke it about a million years ago and it is sitting in the top of my toolbox for eons now. It just protects that connector from contamination. If I could find some gorrilla snot I would put some in the cap and stick it back on top of the connector.

Great

BMW SERIES 7 E32 Seeking 90 735i thermostat help

Hi this is my first post and it is to request help on a little problem I am having. I am a woman with car repair knowledge (I have rebuilt engines transmissions carburetors and done all the regular maintenance stuff) but never worked on a bimmer before. All of my repair knowledge is from practical experience (my dad had me helping him work on cars with him since I was old enough to reach the brake

Jake Yes the thermostat housing cover is the aluminum thing that you bolt onto the top of the thermostat and has a radiator hose coming off the bottom of it. I replaced the o-ring and the gasket (although a bmw mechanic told me that the gasket was not necessary). I might have over torqued it the first time but I am not sure the torque specs for the housing cover actually it never occurred to me there

BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 RecallService Bulletin on water pump & thermostat

Is anyone else aware of a Service Bulletin being put out back in October of 2008 for 2006 bmw 3 series owners having a faulty water pump and thermostat Would be interested in what you know. Was told there was one and dont know how to find it. Thanks Lori

There is a Service Bulletin we found out from bmw which was put out on the issue. It cost us 1760 to fix the thermostat and the radiator. One of the problems is when we had the car worked on at a body shop the shop replaced the coolant with something other than bmw coolant which is the incorrect ration of we they put in it - PLUS there was a frayed wire to the thermostat which bmw said meant the thermostat

Looking for instructions to replace my 2005 bmw 530i E60 thermostat.

as to prevent potential damage from leaking coolant. Use a pair of pliers to remove the clips holding the hoses on to the thermostat. Remove the bolts holding the thermostat to the engine and then remove the thermostat. Installation is the reverse of removal. BMW SERIES 3 E46 P1620 code but thermostat just replaced

hi bimmer fellows Now I have a P1620 code on my 2001 E46 325CI. I had a P0128 code a week ago then I replaced the thermostat. Now I have a P1620 code which I found people thought it was the thermostat problem but my thermostat was just replaced which I got from ebay and the seller said it was a new one. Is P1620 definitely indicating thermostat problem I think my coolant has air inside and I did get

ok I need a little advice. I just replaced my thermostat a couple weeks ago after getting the P1620 error. (also did the CPS sensors and Vanos rings and the valve cover gasket) Today while driving home got the SEs light and am now getting P1620 and P0444 I used a Genuine bmw replacement thermostat so do you think it is still a faulty thermostat or is there something else to check Electrical connection

BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 T-stat housing not covered by warranty

Anyone else have any issues with getting their extended warranty to cover the thermostat housing My car overheated last night took it to the dealer today. They say my water pump was leaking and thermostat housing was cracked. Service writer tells me water pump will be covered thermostat housing will not and its a 300 part. My theory is that if my water pump failed which in turn caused my car to overheat

Who is this warranty through The plan most bmw dealers sell clearly states what is not covered sometimes in broad terms sometimes in very detailed terms. I know the thermostathousing would be called out on the plan bmw most frequently sells (three tier plan). Is this through another company then It seems unusual that a plan would not have at least a clear inclusion or exclusion list. Hope they get

BMW SERIES 3 E46 Dumb question about thermostat replacement

Okay Im pretty sure my thermostat needs to be replaced (the temp gauge wont go past about 30% unless I am sitting still for a while or its warm outside and the heat is only kinda luke warm unless the temp gauge gets up to normal then it blows hot air just fine. The AC is working fine) but Im getting confused. I have an automatic transmission car so I know that I will have to remove the fan - which

a lot of mess not draining the block or rad. Pretty straight forward and now my car warms up in just a couple of minutes and blows wonderful hot air - winter is coming Awesome thanks Ill try that and hopefully it works for me. BMW SERIES 5 E60 E61 545i blown valve cover gasket

Took my car into the dealer for an oil leak and they discovered it was a blown valve cover gasket. Car is a 2005 with only 52000km. Any ideas on what would cause this and if its a sign of other problems They also had to replace the thermostat as well.

BMW SERIES 5 E60 E61 faulty valve cover bolts

Anyone know if bmw has any responsiblitiy for faulty valve cover gasgets in 2007 525i

I bought the car new and it has been serviced by the same dealership thru out. They told me that it had an oil leak at last years inspection sticker service but do it looking minor and they telling me i needed a thermostat replaced both services being very expense I opted for the thermostat repair. Today I google bmw oil leak and the fist thing is a youtube video showing the discover of faulty blots

BMW SERIES 3 E46 Whats up with the valve cover gaskets on these cars

I just finished replacing the valve cover gasket on my daughters 04 325i for the second time. The first time was right after we bought it in June of 2010 when the car had 86300 miles (it now has 120700). The old valve cover was still soft and supple as it was the last time I replaced it all the nuts were at the correct tightness and there was what appears to me to be plenty of RTV residue in the half-moons.

I always replace the valve cover gasket set every time I replace the spark plugs on the M52 and M54 series engines. I do this as a part of a major tune-up (along with water pump expansion tank thermostat hoses etc.) at about every 60k to 70k miles (100k kilometers). Incidentally some people have reported premature failure on some of the after-market valve cover gasket sets.

so Im sure it was leaking. What gives Should I expect to have to do this job every three years Same here. Replaced my VCG at 74K with Goetze gasket set. Now the car has 123K and the VCG is leaking again. So lasted for some 50K. And Goetze is supposed to be OE Quote Originally Posted by alpinweiss I always replace the valve cover gasket set every time I replace the spark plugs on the M52 and M54 series

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Best time to replace thermostat during Vanos seals repair

Im doing the Vanos seals repair this weekend. Im also taking the time to replace my thermostat due to the engine cooling down when driving fast. I shouldve had it replaced when I had the VC gasket and rest of my cooling system replaced but oh well thats in the past. Since maybe 14 of the Vanos job requires removing the valve cover the radiator and the fan blade and various Mickey Mouse cooling bits

BMW SERIES 3 E46 New female to forum needs advice re thermostat and head gasket

Im driving my third bmw a 2004 325xi purchased in 2005 as a CPO. It currently has 135K miles and is off warranty and starting to have a few problems. Hey guys this is my first post here. I have a 550i and recently i got a P0128 fault code (coolant temp below operating temp) so I opened my Torque app and confirmed that it was running below the operating temp. sounds like the thermostat so I got one but I cant find a Bentley service manual download anywhere. I know where it is located but im not sure how to get the air out of the system after I replace the T-stat. Thanks.

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Beware of the Thermostat

I had the dreading Engine Failsafe Prog message showing up on my LCD last Thursday. Engine started going wild RPM going up and down like crazy and the car did not respond to my gas pedal. I took it to bmw Seattle and they found out that the thermostat overheated burned the connectors that went to the engine wiring harness resulting in the entire engine wiring harness and DME burn out. Parts are 2300.

You are not the first This has been covered a few times before and I believe one guy had over 7k damage from the short and resulting small fire. Please report this to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration httpwww.nhtsa.dot.gov I believe that if enough folks report in that it may cause bmw to start warranting this stuff as a recall. It is definitely a safety concern. Ask them to save the parts and post pictures. I am curious what this looks like and what this thermostat controls.

BMW SERIES 3 E46 Coolant Leak from thermostat housing - What should I replace

Hi My 2000 323i E46 is in the shop and Im being told that I have a coolant leak from the thermostat housing. The service shop is recommending that I replace the following to have this fixed 1. thermostat with housing - 432 (incl labor) 2. Coolant expansion tank and upperlower radiator hoses - 407 (incl labor) - PREVENTIVE 3. Water pump - 294 (incl labor) - PREVENTIVE 4. Drive belts - 110 (incl labor) - PREVENTIVE Do I need to have all this done Thanks

hmmm how do you guys come up with labor Honestly the parts come on and off in about two-three hours(upperlower hoses fan clutch shroud belts pullies tensioner water pump and thermostat) the crummy part is filling and then bleeding and then refilling and then bleeding then driving the car for a few miles and then bleeding again. There is really no easy way to bleed a bmw cooling system. If you are going

BMW SERIES 5 E39 What else to tackle while doing valley pan & valve covers

I have an 03 540it (m62 motor) with 85k miles and have had some leakage issues common to this motor. Here is what I plan on doing and am looking for advice on what else to tackle while I am in there... Serpentine Belts Valley Pan Gasket (reusing old pan and using Permatex Grey to form gasket) Valve cover Gaskets (not sure how I should deal with corrosion on covers themselves default is to sand & paint

expansion tank etc.). Since you have the V8 you are already in the bonus round and I can hear that clock ticking from here. I would also add... you should replace the fan blades(bc they can crack and cause a catastrophic failure). And maybe the visco fan clutch too. These two things can cause a good waterpump to fail over some time - do to imbalance. When you replace the valve covers - only buy bmw
