BMW SERIES 5 E39 Exciting Evening - FIRE in the radiator fan...

Hi Everyone Just got back from the side of the road where I watched my immaculate 530i be hauled onto the back of a tow truck because it looked like the radiator fan caught fire. We were driving along when I started to smell burning plastic I thought it was the car in front of me then it got really strong and I pulled over straight away. Seeing what looked to be steam coming from the front grille I

BMW SERIES 6 New Style Matte Black Grille

I found this new style 6 series grille on ebay and I think it looks awesome. Its different from our original ones because this one uses the fat slats (think Z4 or new X5 or X6) instead of the flat blade like slats that we have on our 6. I want this one but I am not sure of the quality fitment... hopefully someone can point me in the right direction where I can pick up something like this with high quality. EBAY Link and here is a regular one for comparison

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Concerns about no M5 bumper grille

The other day I just realized my bodyshop put the m5 bumper grille after installing the bumper. So they just glued it on. Well I noticed it was starting to come off so I just took the grille altogether. My concern is is it safe to drive without the grille Right now the lower radiator is exposed and Im worried about road debris destroying something. Am I being paranoid or should I put the grille back on pronto the part im talking about

I think youll be ok for a while anything small enough could get through the grill anyway and leaves etc will just get stuck on the radiator. I wouldnt drive down dirt roads or anything to avoid large rocks hitting the rad though. Oh and fire your body shop guy

BMW SERIES 5 F10 F11 Active Grille Shutters

My horn sounded kind of funny today so I look into the grille and notice what look like horiz. shutters inside. Does anyone know if the F10 have active grille shutter

I snapped some crappy pictures this morning because you guys had me curious to see what they look like when they are open because until today Id only ever seen them closed. After a 20 minute drive I left my 14 528-x running when I pulled into my parking space and finally saw my radiator and the cross bars. Sorry about the dirt its been a long cold week. Oh and I NEVER use Eco-Pro so thats not what

The air vent control is part of bmws efficient dynamics. It is supposed to control the airflow through the radiator so the engine will reach working temperature more easily. It is on all F10 series cars as far I found out.

BMW SERIES 6 New Grille (T-Rex)

Just ordered some of the T-Rex grilles for the 650i off eBay. I didnt know what to expect but Im happy with the result. I just sold my Caddy XLR and I had a simlar style grille that I really like so I decided to give this one a shot. Here is a before picture. install was pretty easy just need some Torx wrenches and a socket for the new grille. Everything came with directions so not too hard. Basically

BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 Purpose of lower radiator seal

I heard about this radiator seal and looking it up on RealOEM lo and behold there it is. Its only 12 plus shipping from ECS Tuning When I had removed my engine belly pan aka Underhood Shield doing some work it was missing but I cant figure out what purpose this seal would have when the engine shield extends from the bumper all the way to the transmission. Ive seen a video of an aftermarket intercooler

Sure if there werent also the engine belly pan. With that pan in place this radiator seal is barely an inch above it at the radiator but converges onto it roughly twelve inches later to the rear. In fact if there is any air that somehow goes into the lower grille but somehow ducks underneath the radiator it gets trapped between the radiator seal and engine pan which in my opinion would lead to more air resistance however slight that may be.

BMW SERIES 6 Highest Quality Matte Black Grille

There seem to be lots of options out there for matte black front grilles. Which company has the best price and highest quality grille Thanks in advance

[QUOTEdocpaulo5275715]what torx bolts are you referring to I didnt have to remove anything when I replaced mine.. QUOTE] All of the Torx bolts from the top of the bumper back to the radiator beam all on top of the front engine compartment (there were around 16 of them). I had to do this to reach behind the bumper and pop out the old grilles. I couldnt imagine installing the new grille without removing all of these.

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Smoking radiator coolant everywhere

Today was a sad day. Did a little of my commute at 105 mph and decided to take it up to about 6k rpm off a stop light right before my turn to the office and as Im pulling into my spot theres steam coming out from under the hood. I pop it and theres coolant splattered all over the engine. Prior to this I had a check coolant light which I fixed with a 5050 mix of the oem antifreeze. I believe I filled

BMW SERIES 3 E46 New Radiator Really

So the shop said I needed a new radiator as a result of some prolonged leaks that allowed too much pressure build up -- made sense to me sucked but whatever. So Im under the car today putting new brakes on and wiping up oil that is another leak I need to have fixed in the future when I start looking around to see if the residue is just overflow from when they put the new tank and radiator in or if

Like SJBimmer said the AC condenser is visible through the kidney grilles. My replacement Behr radiator has a couple of labels one of which states the production date on its top edge. The labels are concealed by the air filter intake duct so youll need to pry out the three or four plastic expansion fasteners in order to remove the duct and see the top edge of the radiator.

BMW SERIES 5 E60 E61 Steam coming from grille

hey guys i just picked up an 07 525i with 100000kms on it. Last night I was driving home and stopped at a light I could see some steam coming from the front grille. I popped the hood and the fan was not spinning. Is this normal I might be jumping the gun but curious about a possible cooling issue. Thanks

Quote Originally Posted by Dystinct525i Is this normal Generally no this isnt normal however if roads were wet andor it was raining shortly before you stopped then you may simply have observed water evaporating from the radiator coils and not coolant leaking or venting from the system. iDrive will warn you when the engine is running hot or coolant is low so you can wait for that to happen or (to avoid a possible flatbed ride) have a shop pressure check the system for you in advance of an issue.

in the past. Check the coolant level in the expansion tank the bobber should be close to the top. The fan is not always spinning (cooling) so that may not be a factor. Agreed water could have splashed up and hit the manifold if it were wet but typically the underbelly of the car especially under the engine is pretty well protected. Best thing to do is not to freak out once you go into Im in a bmw

BMW SERIES 7 E38 E38 upper radiator hose

my hose came loose today while i was driving. i noticed a nice white cloud following me. i first thought i had a blow head gasket but looked to see that the hose had detached from the engine. i put a new hose clamp let the cooling system bubble everything out and added new coolant. seems to be ok now. i didnt let it overheat extremely but it did get hot. i dont think i should have any problems but

Ill check the date stickers on the parts. Im going to see if the hoses are in stock. If not im waiting about a week for them to ship. I really dont want this happening again so im just going ahead and replacing the rest of them at the same time. I originally thought the hose clamp was the only problem but its really the plastic thats breaking down. I might also order another grille at this same time as Ive replaced the passenger side already. All OEM bmw parts too. No cheap crap.

lucky for me they had everything in stock minus the grille. the hoses werent too much. upper and lower were 38.62 each the temperature sensor was 26.38 so it didnt break the bank. this has to be one of the easiest cars to work on. the quick connects are pretty easy to disconnect and everything is fairly easy to access. much easier to work on than my subaru was.

BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 Oil coming out from the front grilles

I have a 2009 bmw 328i (with about 32K on it). A few days back Service needed warning (in yellow) came up on the car dashboard - it came up only once when I started the car and went away once the car had started and didnt show up again. However a small warning triangle sign would come up and remain while I am driving too. So after a day I took the car to the dealer and told them about the Service needed

The spray outside the car makes me think it might be the air conditioning condenser. It looks like a radiator in front of the engine coolant radiator. The gas is under pressure and contains an oil lubricant for the compressor. If that is damaged the high pressure R134a refrigerant with some oil would come out. Check to see if your AC blows cold. If it doesnt that might be your problem.

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Aux. Radiator Fan

Because is is so quiet I just came to realize that once my 99 528 is up to normal running temperature the auxilary radiator fan pretty much runs all of the time. Is this normal Im used to fans that come on and off when needed e.g. while sitting at a stop light.

Here try this 1) Physically inspect the grill and it currrent plastic clips. Standing in front of the grill with the hood poped but not raised you can see the two plastic clips on top of the kidney grill to metal chassis by the radiator.. BMW SERIES 5 E60 E61 Driving Lights Behind Grille

Has anyone mounted driving lights behind the grille I believe if a metal bracket is fabricated and attached to the front bumper at the proper height lights could be mounted behind the grille at the proper height that both allow the use of the lights and provide protection. Thoughts and experiences welcomed Michael Wylie

I would just use the stock in air dam location to avoid the redneck trucker look myself. But if you are set on doing it behind the grill avoid obtructing airflow to the radiator and remember the grill is plastic to avoid melting it.

BMW SERIES 3 E30 Total Loss Accident... What do you think

bad bad news I just picked up an e30 1990 318i in very good condition and runs excellent... stock. Was excited to do a few mods and upgrades. Tuesday night I was in an accident rear ended a jeepat maybe 15-20 mph. oddly I hit the spare wheel on the jeep pushing my hood back or bending it and pushing the grille in a little. the bumpervalence was untouched. It looked as if nothing in under the hood was

wasnt even touched. The big thing is the line 22 the radiator support. This is what he was telling me was a single piece with the front left&right fenders. anyway I really want to keep this car. However I do not have the hookups when it comes to shops and tools. So a lot of this would most likely need to be done at a shop unless it wasnt a crazy process. Im hoping to go look at it tomorrow. 1991 bmw

BMW SERIES 3 E36 Help 1997 BMW 328i Overheating Failed Emissions and other Newbie questions

Id usually let it cool a bit then open the cap to add liquid to the expansion

BMW SERIES 6 My comment to this forum

I think many people here need to be a little more open-minded about car modifications. Not everyone is looking for the most practical or value-conscious solution for their automobiles. Do you think that guy in the Honda slammed to the ground with a crazy ass bodykit cares about practicality All he cares about is turning heads from his fellow import tuning enthusiasts. BMW SERIES 5 E39 528i M52 cooling system bleeding overhaul overheating

Ok so you have a bmw 528i with the rock solid m52 engine. If its so rock solid then why do they overheat and warp damage cyliner heads you ask Because most people dont understand how the cooling system works. I think of the cooling system as a pressurized closed circulation system. That is the coolant is forced through the system at a greater pressure than domestic vehicles and is contained in a sealed

that the low end power means there is no need to really cane it to go fast shifting at 6000 rpm puts you right back into the meat of the powerband. BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 Why No Dual Clutch in 3 Series

Seriously I just had my 335i in for service recently and was given a 135i loaner with the dual-clutch Getrag box.
